No rainbows without rain: Pride in the Park a success despite rainy weather

Jun 7, 2025 | 3:56 PM

Pride Week kicked off in Prince Albert on Sunday, June 1, with a full week of smaller events to bring the LGBTQ+ community together, all capped off celebrations on Saturday, June 7. The celebrations began with a parade that lead to the Pride in the Park celebration.

For Andromeda Eremondi, who is in her first five months as the Chair of Prince Albert Pride, the week has been a great start to Pride Month.

“We’ve had a lot of fun this week. We didn’t even have any issues. We had like one single lone protester on Sunday, and that’s about it. We haven’t had any issues, everybody’s been having fun. We’ve been hearing from the community that they’ve been having fun.”

This year’s them for the Pride celebration was surrounding ‘Solidarity’. The board for Prince Albert Pride also loved the idea after taking a look at themselves and seeing just how much solidarity was already a factor in their lives in other things they were doing.

Not only that, ‘solidarity’ was also a great follow up message to their message from last year.

“We came to that idea of solidarity when we realized that most of our Board have union representation. I’m from RWDSU, I’m also on the SFL Solidarity and Pride Committee. Brandon Nicholson, our recording secretary, he’s USW and he’s on the Solidarity and Pride Committee, he’s the chair of it with SFL, so we thought it was of kismet (fate) to say ‘solidarity’. Being stronger as a community. Last year was about self-care, and this year is like facing hate, especially seeing what was going on in elections. Just coming together and being stronger together.”

Eremondi has been in Prince Albert since 2020 but has only been a part of the Prince Albert Pride group for the last two years, and has been the chair since January. Since being a part of the group, she has been amazed by how vibrant the LGBTQ+ community has been since arriving here.

“This is my actually second year being involved with the Pride community and I knew it existed, I was surprised last year with how how big and tight knit it was.”

Prince Albert Pride was happy to see the turnout this year despite the wind and rain coming down during the parade.

“I just hope everyone had fun this week and I hope to see everybody throughout the year too, because pride doesn’t just stop in June.”

While this week has been the big kickoff to Pride Month in Prince Albert, there are more Pride events happening around the city throughout the rest of June. To stay up to date with Pride events happening in the city, follow the Prince Albert Pride Facebook page.
