Prince Albert’s Divas help support local causes

A major fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince Albert was supported on Friday by both good weather and community involvement.

The annual Diva for a Day golf tournament and caddie auction was hosted by Kachur’s Golf Course. Development Coordinator Natasha Thomson was pleased with how the day went.

“We have over 100 women golfing here today and raising money for youth mentoring. So the community support is outstanding,” she said.

The day’s festivities included a golf ball toss off the deck of the club house onto the green below. The activity helped raise over $400 for the wildfire evacuees and will in the end get doubled thanks to a commitment from the federal government.

The caddie auction raised over $4,000 and there was also a silent auction that included both an Air Canada Adventure and a Sask. Golf Superpack featuring a number of golf courses across central Sask.

Reflecting on the needs in Prince Albert, Thomson noted they have youth waiting for months and months.

“We do need volunteers to step up and become mentors. So events like this help the community become aware of the need and what we do.”

Thomson also noted the positive impact the organization has in the community and the life long friendships they have created.

“We get feedback all the time from parents, from youth, and from volunteers that they feel it has a positive impact in their life. We also hear from people who have been in the program in the past, and years and years later, they are still connected with their match.”
