A new group home for people with intellectual disabilities has officially opened in Humboldt.

The provincial government and Futuristic Industries Inc. have teamed up to provide five adults a new home.

The government has provided $1.6 million in capital funding for the project and will also give $360,000 per year to fund the group home.

Social Services Minister Terry Jenson said the home represents the province’s commitment to supporting people with intellectual disabilities and investing in inclusive communities in Saskatchewan.

“By working alongside community partners like Futuristic Industries, we are helping ensure people have the choice and control they need to live full lives,” Jenson said.

Futuristic Industries Inc. provides staffing and personalized care for residents in the group home. They operate three group homes that serve 19 people, along with an independent living program supporting nine clients, and a day program that serves 30 people.

Executive Director Raymond Whitton said having access to funding for building the new group home, and the support of the Ministry of Social Services, allows individuals with intellectual disabilities to have an opportunity to live in an environment that supports their needs.

“This not only enhances their independence by promoting autonomy in daily life but also strengthens their connection to the community,” explained Whitton. “By providing a safe, customized space, the individuals we support are empowered to pursue personal goals, build meaningful relationships, and enjoy a higher quality of life.”

He said the organization is grateful for the financial support and shared vision of helping those they serve to live the best versions of their lives.
