Predators clinch playoff spot following seventh straight win

The Prince Albert Predators are the first team to punch their ticket to the playoffs in the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League (PGLL) this season.

P.A. clinched their seat in the dance on Saturday during a battle for first place, which saw the Preds down the visiting Moose Jaw Mustangs in a high scoring affair, 21-14.

The win is the seventh in a row for the Predators, who remain atop the league with a 7-0-1 (W-L-T) record.

The Blue and Gold dominated the first two periods, outscoring Moose Jaw 19-8 while outshooting them 43-34. However, the Mustangs had the Predators on a leash in the third and won the final frame 6-2 and outshot P.A. 15-10.

Matthew Cudmore led the charge for Prince Albert with eight points (2G-6A), while Brayden Rieger was one back with seven (6G-1A). Talon Sandry had five points (3G-2A), Chase Lehner had four (2G-2A), Braden Shewchuk netted a hat-trick, and Sam Cooper collected three assists.

Also scoring in the win was Ryley Prediger (2G), Cole Barmby (2G), Mason Crain (2A), Koltin Fyrk (2A), Tucker Prodaehl (1G), Logan Rieger (1A), Tobey Oshanek (1A), and Aidan Horn (1A).

Between the pipes, rookie netminder Oliver Volek had another solid outing by turning aside 35 of the 49 shots he faced to collect his second win of the season.

For Moose Jaw, Braxton Mac Angus finished on top of the scoresheet with five points (3G-2A), Ryder Gilroy had four (2G-2A), and three players tallied three points including Chase McKee (2G-1A), Cooper Bruce (1G-2A), and Carter Hudyma (1G-2A). Lukas Salikin finished with two points (1G-1A), while Carson Isnana, Riley Bender, Carver Ottenbreit, and Kysen Mac Angus each scored one goal, and Tye Farnsworth added an assist.

Keegan Dudley and Joey Juchacz split time for the Mustangs in goal and combined for 32 saves on 51 shots, as Moose Jaw remains second in the standings with a 7-2-0 record.

Prince Albert is back in action this weekend when they hit the road and head south. On Saturday night, the Preds will be in Swift Current to face the Wolverines, before heading to Moose Jaw to rematch the Mustangs for a Sunday matinee.
