It’s Pride Week in the City of Humboldt.

A flag raising ceremony was held at City Hall on Monday to launch the week in the city.

Councillor Marilyn Scott was on hand to speak on behalf of the city, while councillors Sarah McInnis and Karen Siermachesky were also on hand for the ceremony.

“The City of Humboldt is honoured to be part of the flag-raising in recognition of Pride Week in Humboldt, and the global Pride movement,” a statement read. “A huge thank you for Humboldt Pride Network for all their hard work in planning and organizing all the events coming up this week.”

The annual crosswalk painting also took place to kick off the week.

Mayor Rob Muench proclaimed Pride Week at the City Council Meeting May 26.

“Pride is a global movement that stands for equality and celebration of diversity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer, questioning, two-spirited and their allies,” a post on the City of Humboldt’s website stated. “Pride is a way to honour and respect all people regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, to recognize our differences and uniqueness, to promote and build community through education and understanding.”
