Locals medal at SHSAA track and field provincials

The best high school track and field athletes were in Moose Jaw over the weekend for the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association’s (SHSAA) Provincial Track and Field Championships.

Out of the athletes who competed, a handful managed to place on the podium and come home with some hardware. A complete list of results can be found here.

Carlton saw a couple first place victories along with some second and third place finishes. One of those athletes who claimed gold was Stryker Zablocki, who won the Senior Girls 100m (11.84). She also won silver in the Senior Girls 200m (24.41).

Braden Bennington blew the competition out of the water in the Junior Boys 3000m and won with a time of 9:28.26, more than 20 seconds ahead of second place. He also finished fifth in the Junior Boys 1500m (4:34.13). Meanwhile, Matthew Quiring claimed silver in the Intermediate Boys 3000m (10:02.92) and placed fourth in the Intermediate Boys 1500m (4:33.82).

Raedyn Reddekopp – 4th Junior Girls Long Jump (4.67m), 6th Junior Girls 200m (27.38)

Kingston Marsh – 5th Senior Boys Pole Vault (3.10m)

Kaitlyn Foy – 6th Junior Girls Discus (26.32m)

Although no golds, St. Mary had one podium placement in Kyeran Murphy, who captured silver in Intermediate Boys High Jump with a 1.79m jump. He also placed ninth in Intermediate Boys Long Jump (5.46m) and tenth in Intermediate Boys Triple Jump (11.53m).

Lucas Boechler just missed the podium in Senior Boys Pole Vault, finishing fourth with a 3.10m vault.
