Melfort fire crews heading home after fighting La Ronge wildfire

Jun 11, 2025 | 1:29 PM

Melfort Fire Department (MFD) crews are returning home after being released from fighting the fire in La Ronge.

Two groups of four firefighters spent time in the community helping to protect structures and performing other duties as needed.

Melfort firefighters have been in La Ronge for nearly two weeks.

“Over the past nine days, we had the opportunity to work with some amazing departments, and many locals, and we’re proud to be part of a larger team, all focused on the same mission,” the department posted on their social media page.

The MFD praised the La Ronge Regional Fire Department for their hard work in such an unpredictable situation, and their welcoming nature as well.

“You welcomed us in, and treated us like family, and we thank you for your hospitality while working hard each day to protect your homes and communities.”

The department also thanked the locals who helped feed and shelter the arriving firefighters, and the eight Melfort Fire Department members who took time to help support their northern neighbours.

While the MFD praised everyone involved with the firefight, they also took time to recognize the loss many people have faced from the Pisew fire.

“Our heart goes out to those who lost homes, businesses, pets, cabins, and other important things that can never be replaced.”

La Ronge-area residents can go back to their homes on Thursday.
