Wildfire evacuees entitled to $500 support from province

Jun 11, 2025 | 11:32 AM

Premier Scott Moe announced those displaced by wildfires in Saskatchewan will be entitled to $500 in assistance from the province.

He made the announcement Wednesday morning that all residents over the age of 18, residing in communities that were evacuated will receive the funding.

“Our focus is to ensure that individuals, businesses and communities, but most importantly, families and children have the support that they require to recover from what has been a tremendously fast-moving and challenging time,” he said to reporters at a press conference in Saskatoon Wednesday morning.

The funds will be issued as a grant directly to the impacted communities, and then dispersed by leadership.

The announcement comes after the Saskatchewan Ombudsperson stated they would investigate the province’s wildfire response after her office fielded numerous complaints about a lack of evacuation supports.

The funding is an increase to the financial assistance announced June 7, which was provided by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA). The province also provided $15 million to the Canadian Red Cross in support of Saskatchewan residents displaced from their homes. On Thursday, radio stations across the province will unite to broadcast the ‘Saskatchewan Day of Caring’ radiothon with funds going directly to the Canadian Red Cross Saskatchewan 2025 Wildfires Appeal. The Government of Canada will match donations until June 29, 2025.

If you are an evacuee and are looking for more information, you can contact the Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Evacuees registered with the SPSA Emergency and Community Support program can contact the SPSA at 1-855-559-5502 to seek supports.
