Meadow Lake’s new Co-op Centre will officially open later this month with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for June 24.

The $51.8-million recreation facility remains on time and under budget, according to the city’s latest council summary report. Substantial completion was reached on May 29, and staff began moving into the building last week.

In an April interview, Mayor Merlin Seymour said the city had anticipated a September opening, but steady progress moved it up.

To date, $51.67 million has been committed — about $160,000 under the approved budget. The project is currently forecast to use 99.85 per cent of its total funding.

“This project is progressing on track in terms of budget, scope and schedule,” the report states.

The development is being funded in part through the federal-provincial Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP). The city has received $26 million in repayments across 18 claims, while its direct share is expected to total nearly $10 million.

Construction is now 99.54 per cent complete, with inspections, training and final deficiency work underway. The schedule performance index is listed at 1.0, indicating the project is progressing as planned.

Post-construction closeout and communications activities are scheduled to continue into the fall. Final financial reconciliation is underway, with the remaining five per cent holdback under the ICIP agreement expected to be released once all required documentation is submitted.

The project is managed by Colliers Project Leaders, with construction oversight by Quorex. Furthermore, the centre is located at 506 3 Street East in the city.

The grand opening ceremony for the new Co-op Centre is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 24. An open house will follow from 3:45 to 5:30, giving residents an opportunity to tour the new facility.

As part of the ceremony, a community time capsule will be sealed with plans to reopen it in 2075.
