‘It’s a fun filled experience’: Saskatoon Berries to host Prince Albert Night on June 21

Jun 12, 2025 | 10:41 AM

The Saskatoon Berries of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) are inviting all Prince Albert minor baseball and softball players and teams to come out to their game on June 21.

The Berries will host the Energy City Cactus Rats in an evening dubbed ‘Prince Albert Night’, celebrating baseball and softball in the community and an opportunity to showcase our Aces, Astros, and Royals pride.

Jeremy Junk with the Saskatoon Entertainment Group (SEG) said it’ll be a fun filled night.

“One thing with the Berries just being close, relevant to Prince Albert obviously, and there’s no WCBL teams north of Saskatoon, so just trying to touch another community with young baseball players that would like to come out, get to watch a few players that aren’t too much older than them.”

Stepping onto the field for the first time in 2024, the Berries took the league by storm, finishing their inaugural year with a 31-25 record. The club also made a deep run in the playoffs, upsetting the Medicine Hat Mavericks in the opening round before being eliminated in the East Division Finals at the hands of the Moose Jaw Miller Express.

Now this season, Saskatoon sits atop the East Division with an 8-2 record after 10 games, while outscoring their opponents 89-52.

Junk said that there are many seats available as Prince Albert Night was just announced, but some teams have also booked reservations for other games as well. Those wanting to attend can contact the Berries. Group rates for the season are:

  • Child (12 and under) – $7.50
  • Youth (13-17) – $10
  • Adult (18+) – $16

He added that the Berries are looking at hosting similar nights for other nearby communities.

“We do have a few other nights as well for other outside of town teams that we’ve been reaching out to, including the Battleford, Humboldt areas. We do have a few local players from kind of all over Saskatchewan, so it’s always nice to invite some of the communities outside of Saskatoon to come and watch.”

First pitch on June 21 is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The WCBL is a summer collegiate wood-bat league consisting of 12 teams spread across Saskatchewan and Alberta. Players range in ages from 18-23 and are primarily college or university students playing in the U.S.
