MONYQ Fashion Show in Melfort to highlight latest styles, local models

The city of Melfort will soon become a fashion hub.

The MONYQ Fashion Show is being held at the Kerry Vickar Centre Saturday, with the red carpet starting at 1p.m. and doors closing at 1:45p.m.

Creative Director Monica Olukosi told northeastNOW she wanted to bring something different and vibrant to Melfort.

“After moving here a few years ago, I noticed a gap in the fashion scene,” Olukosi explained. “Hosting the MONYQ Fashion Show is my way of introducing premium fashion to the community while also celebrating creativity and diversity.”

Olukosi said her passion for fashion began in childhood, and that she was always intrigued by “how a simple piece of fabric could be turned into something beautiful and meaningful.” She hand-stitched doll clothes when she was young by using a needle and thread, and a small hand-sewing machine she received as a gift grew into a love of fashion. Olukosi later pursued fashion design professionally before coming to Canada and remains dear to her heart.

The MONYQ Fashion Show is expected to be an exciting, elegant afternoon, said Olukosi.

“Beautiful clothing, live performances, dance, music, red-carpet moments, and community spirit,” she said. “It will be a complete fashion experience – fun, bold, and memorable.”

The show will feature a mixture of fashions during the show, complete with bridal wear, prom and dinner dresses along with men’s suits, luxury styles, and traditional-type clothing with “a modern twist.” MONYQ rental options and custom designs will be highlighted.

Olukosi hopes the MONYQ fashion show becomes an annual event the community looks forward to each year. Many of the models in this year’s show are locals, including residents from Melfort and area and high school students. There are other models from outside Saskatchewan as well, and Olukosi said they are proud to highlight diverse talent from Melfort and beyond.

“This show is more than just fashion—it’s about bringing the community together, celebrating culture, and supporting local creativity,” Olukosi said. “The MONYQ store recently opened in Melfort, and this event is part of our official launch. We’re excited to share this journey with the town and beyond.”

It’s recommended that you purchase tickets prior to the event, though guests can pay at the door. The event is sponsored and supported by FLK Law Firm, WeCollaborate Inc., Prairie North Co-op and Rotary Club of Melfort. Tickets can be purchased at the Kerry Vickar Centre or by calling 306-752-4177, with all proceeds from the $10 entry fee going to the Melfort Food Bank.

MONYQ also collaborated with Stray Model Agency, who will be exclusively streaming the event.

“This collaboration creates a potential career opportunity for participating models, as the agency will be scouting talent directly from the event to support and possibly guide them in building their modeling careers, for those interested.”
