ON NOW: Saskatchewan broadcasters unite for radiothon supporting wildfire evacuees

Jun 12, 2025 | 6:00 AM

UPDATE:

As of 4 p.m. a total of $322,156 had been raised! Donations will continue to be counted through the weekend and a final total will be announced Monday.

The Saskatchewan Day of Caring is underway on radio stations across the province, including all Pattison Media stations in Prince Albert and La Ronge, North Battleford, Meadow Lake and Melfort.

It’s a collaborative effort that has broadcasters dedicate airtime throughout the day to raise funds and awareness for those impacted by this year’s wildfires. Funds raised will go directly to the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) Saskatchewan 2025 Wildfires Appeal to help with immediate and ongoing relief, including financial assistance, support to evacuees and the communities hosting them, recovery and resilience efforts in response to the wildfires, as well as supporting community preparedness and risk reduction for future all-hazard disaster events within Saskatchewan.

The Government of Canada will match donations to the Canadian Red Cross until June 29, 2025. Every $1 donated will become $2 to support families and individuals most affected by the wildfires.

On Wednesday, Premier Scott Moe announced that those displaced by wildfires in Saskatchewan, over the age of 18, will be entitled to $500 in assistance from the province. The funding is an increase to the financial assistance announced June 7, which was provided by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA). The province also provided $15 million to the Canadian Red Cross.

“The start to the wildfire season in Canada has been devastating,” said Jason Small with the CRC. “The Red Cross has been working alongside various partners to provide critical assistance, including emergency accommodations, food and emergency supplies. There are a lot of needs, and more assistance will be needed. If you would like to help, please donate.”
