UPDATED: RCMP investigating after pipe bomb discovered at Lloydminster home

Jun 12, 2025 | 1:16 PM

An investigation is underway in Lloydminster after a pipe bomb was found in the backyard of a home on 41 Street, near 49 Avenue.

The police received a report about the object earlier Thursday morning and called the Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services, Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) and the Alberta RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU), who made the identification.

“We understand that these situations can be stressful for members of the community and Albertans in general” said Cpl. Christopher Byford, acting operations support NCO for the Lloydminster RCMP in a news release.

“We are hard at work investigating the issue and getting the answers the public needs in order to ensure their safety.”

At this time, it isn’t known if this is isolated or if there are more around the community. As such, police ask that residents to be aware, not to go near any suspicious object and contact police at 780-808-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
