The waters of the Northern Saskatchewan swimming scene are churning with pride this week as Ali Diehl has etched her name into history.

The Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club prodigy has been officially selected to represent Team Canada at the prestigious 2025 World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore this September, marking a monumental first in her burgeoning career and for her hometown club.

Ali, whose journey began as a wide-eyed seven-year-old diving into the pool with the P.A. Sharks, has navigated a relentless current of competition this season to reach this pinnacle. Her selection, announced by Swimming Canada, places her among an elite group of just 19 athletes (12 women, 7 men) chosen to don the Maple Leaf on the world stage from September 21st to 27th in Singapore. This isn’t just a personal triumph; it’s a watershed moment for the Prince Albert swimming community.

This is absolutely historic for our club,” beamed a Sharks representative, the excitement palpable. Ali is our first swimmer ever selected to a senior national para swimming team for a World Championship. She’s not just breaking records; she’s breaking barriers and inspiring every single swimmer, every single athlete, who trains alongside her or watches her from the stands. To see a dream born right here in our pool, nurtured through years of dedication, blossom onto the world stage… it’s simply incredible.”

Ali’s path to Singapore has been a masterclass in resilience and focus during a whirlwind season. She navigated the pressure cooker of the Canadian Open Swimming Championships, tested her speed against the world’s best at the World Para Swimming World Series stop in Indianapolis, USA, and delivered when it mattered most at the grueling Canadian Trials. And her journey is far from over.

Before heading to the Team Canada pre-championship training camp, Ali faces the upcoming ManSask Provincial Championships next month, followed by the significant challenge of the Canada Summer Games. It’s a testament to her incredible stamina and unwavering determination that she maintains peak performance through such a demanding schedule.

We are beyond words, just super proud,” the club statement continued. “Remembering that little girl who joined us at seven, already showing such heart and talent… and now to see her representing Canada? It’s the stuff dreams are made of. Ali embodies the spirit of perseverance. We are bursting with hometown pride and will be cheering her on every stroke of the way in Singapore and beyond!”

Ali’s selection is more than just a personal accolade; it’s a beacon of inspiration. From the lanes of the Prince Albert Sharks to the world championships in Singapore, she is proving that dedication, nurtured by community support, can propel dreams into reality. The entire nation will be watching as this trailblazing athlete takes her place on the blocks for Team Canada, ready to make waves on swimming’s grandest para stage. The Sharks have launched a champion, and Singapore awaits.

Go Ali! Go Canada!
