Showers possible during an unsettled Father’s Day weekend

An unsettled weekend weatherwise across much of the province.

Crawford Luke of Environment and Climate Change Canada said scattered showers should fall during the weekend.

“It’s looking like Saturday night there’s probably a decent chance for some thunderstorms in the area as well,” Luke told northeastNOW.

The amount of precipitation will vary considerably thanks to the scattered showers.

“Some areas may see a lot of rain, and then there may be some areas that don’t receive as much rain, but it seems like a pretty good bet that everyone’s going to see at least some rain this weekend.”

The weekend will also remain mainly cloudy across most areas, with some sunny breaks. Luke said despite the sunny breaks the weekend will primarily feature varying cloud cover. The wind could pick up Saturday evening as the chance of thunderstorms increases.

“If you get into a thunderstorm you might get into some wind gusts with that, but generally speaking I wouldn’t say it’s looking like a very windy weekend,” explained Luke.

There may also be some local smoke over the next day or two, and Luke said that should clear off as the wind pushes the smoke to the north.

The unsettled pattern of weather is expected to continue into next week, according to Luke. He said some days will likely have a mixture of sun and cloud, with a chance of some showers or thunderstorms surfacing in the afternoon or evening. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 20 C range for daytime highs during much of next week.
