Traffic stop on James Smith Cree Nation leads to drug charges

A 31-year-old woman faces charges after a traffic stop on James Smith Cree Nation.

Melfort RCMP conducted a traffic stop at James Smith Thursday morning as part of an ongoing investigation.

Officers could see drug paraphernalia in plain view in the vehicle when it was stopped, and they seized about 300 grams of cocaine, 175 grams of crack cocaine, 60 grams of methamphetamine, and 70 grams of cannabis, along with a large sum of cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Gerilyn Burns from James Smith Cree Nation faces three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and one count of possession for the purpose of distributing.
