Measles exposure in Kananaskis ahead of G7 event

Jun 15, 2025 | 11:49 AM

It’s unclear whether a measles exposure at the Kananaskis Country Golf Course will have any impact on the G7 event.

With delegates set to arrive Sunday, many delegates, including heads of state will arrive at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge.

The Kananaskis Golf Course is currently closed for the event and will host the heads of state for a family photo at the conclusion of the summit on Tuesday.

But Alberta Health Services confirms a person infected with measles attended the golf course on June 4 from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Staff from the golf course and G7 media relations were not immediately available for comment.

The person’s time in Kananaskis follows several exposure locations in Calgary, including the J Club Grill and Bar on May 29 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., the Country Hills Golf Club from May 30 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 1, and the Pho Hoan Pasteur Royal Oak from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 1.

Measles is extremely contagious and is spread through the air. Symptoms include a fever of 38.3 C or higher, a cough or runny nose, red eyes. A rash appears three to seven days after the exposure, usually beginning behind the ears and on the face before spreading down the body.

Those who are not vaccinated, are under age 5 or have weakened immune systems are at the greatest risk.
