Melfort introduced to fashion, new store opening soon

A fashion show was held in Melfort on Saturday to introduce the community to the latest styles.

The MONYQ fashion show had local models showcase locally crafted outfits at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

“The show was absolutely amazing. It was a dream come true to see everything come together — the models, the designs, the music, the energy. The support from the community was overwhelming and heartwarming. I believe we were able to present fashion in a way that was accessible, expressive, and inspiring. It wasn’t just about clothes — it was about identity, culture, and confidence. I think we made a strong statement that fashion lives here too,” explained Creative Director Monica Olukosi.

“It was more than I expected. I went in hoping to showcase fashion, but what I witnessed was unity, excitement, and pride from a community that truly embraced the experience. The turnout, the energy, the feedback — it was beyond anything I imagined. Every place has potential when there is passion and commitment. Melfort has creative talent, beautiful people, and a growing appreciation for style. With the right consistency and community engagement, it can definitely grow into a fashion destination.”

Olukosi’s belief in the fact that Melfort can become a fashion hub has her betting on it with her new business.

MONYQ Holdings, with the slogan ‘It’s unique because it’s MONYQ’, is set to open this Wednesday.

“I strongly believe that people in smaller towns deserve the same access to quality fashion and service as those in big cities. MONYQ was created to bridge that gap, offering luxury without the pressure of ownership and making high fashion more attainable for special occasions. The goal is simple: to give people the opportunity to look and feel confident on their big day — whether it’s a wedding, graduation, dinner, or any special event — without breaking the bank. That’s why I introduced the idea of dress rentals. You don’t have to spend a fortune to look exceptional,” Olukosi added.

“I recognized a need. I wanted to create something beautiful here, not just for myself, but for others who want to feel seen, celebrated, and stylish. The show was my way of saying, we are here, and the store is my way of staying. I also wanted to bring something fresh, fun, and different to Melfort — something that sparks excitement and inspires creativity in the community.”

The MONYQ fashion show raised $620 for the local food bank.
