Nearly $700K raised in Saskatchewan Day of Caring radiothon

Jun 16, 2025 | 1:05 PM

Saskatchewan was called on to help their neighbours during their worst moments and they came through. With the help of over 60 radio stations and online media sites, $680,345 has been raised and donations are still coming in.

The  Saskatchewan Day of Caring for Wildfire Evacuees initiated the province-wide effort, and the Government of Canada will continue to match funds raised until June 27 in support of the Canadian Red Cross 2025 Saskatchewan Wildfires Appeal.

“This wildfire season has been especially challenging, and the Canadian Red Cross is working around the clock to provide comfort and care to those affected. We’re incredibly grateful to the radio stations and broadcasters across Saskatchewan who made the radiothon possible, and to the generous Canadians who donated,” said Luc Mullinder, vice president of Manitoba, Nunavut, and Saskatchewan Canadian Red Cross.

“Their support is truly inspiring and provides a much-needed boost to our teams on the ground in Saskatchewan, who are working tirelessly to support affected communities.”

According to a press release, donations will go towards helping those who were impacted with things like financial assistance, support for both evacuees and communities hosting them, along with recovery efforts.

The funds will also go towards supporting community preparedness and risk reduction in the event of future disasters.

In addition to the radiothon, Nutrien made a $300,000 donation to the 2025 Saskatchewan Wildfires Appeal.

“This incredible show of generosity is a testament to the strength and compassion of the people of Saskatchewan,” said Chris Reynolds, Nutrien’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

As of June 16, the Canadian Red Cross has raised $2.1 million for the 2025 Saskatchewan Wildfires Appeal. This amount does not include matching funds from the Government of Canada donations.

Donations are still being accepted online at www.redcross.ca.
