RCMP Major Crime Unit investigates case of woman missing from Big River

The disappearance of a 40-year-old woman from Big River First Nation on June 12 is now being investigated by the RCMP’s major crimes unit.

Michelle Ahenakew was last week at around noon on June 5 in Big River. The investigation has led officers to believe her disappearance is suspicious in nature.

As a result, the community of Big River can expect to see more RCMP officers around as they conduct their inquiries and the public is being asked to call in with any information they might have.

Ahenakew’s family has been notified and placed into contact with Victim Services.

Ahenakew is about 5’5” tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She has brown eyes and long brown hair, and also has a scar over her left eye.

She is known to travel to Saskatoon, Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation and Shell Lake.

Investigators ask anyone who has any information about her disappearance or whereabouts contact police.
