As Prince Albert’s Aurora Isbister pounds a heavy bag, a large smile fills her face – a sign of a true fighter.

On Saturday, she represented the Red Wolf Boxing Club at the Summer Bash in Regina and won her three-round fight. She was also named “female boxer of the night” and was presented with a trophy.

“That made me feel really good like especially after my previous fights, I didn’t do so well. So after this, it just really boosted my confidence,” she said.

Reflecting back on her fight, Isbister admitted to feeling nervous.

“I was getting overwhelmed, so I wasn’t doing as good, but then I started warming up and then I started doing better,” she said. “At one point, I saw that she gave up, and then I just mustered up enough energy to push through.”

Isbister attends Carlton Comprehensive High School and explained her venture into the boxing world came as a result of watching her older brother.

“I really started liking it and then it taught me discipline,” she said, adding boxing has also provided her the opportunity to make new friends. “I learn a lot about them and myself and it’s very eye opening.”

Braddoch Koch is the head coach at the Red Wolf Boxing Club and was very impressed with Isbister’s performance on Saturday.

“She was amazing. I knew she had it in her, but she kind of was a little timid before and struggling with that, but boy she came out in a big way this time.”

Koch noted that when Isbister first came to the club she was 197 lbs. and has been one of the hardest working athletes he has ever trained.

“She just really is a beast.”

Going forward Koch hopes to send several fighters to a competition next month in Peguis, Manitoba.
