Humboldt Broncos defenceman Orin Olson has committed to the Briercrest Clippers of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) for the 2025/26 season.

Olson, a 21-year-old blueliner, spent just one season in Humboldt, racking up two goals, seven assists, and 100 penalty minutes in 53 regular season games. He later added a single assist in six postseason contests.

Prior to his time with the Broncos, the Chaplin, Sask. native played parts of three seasons with the Lloydminster Bobcats in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). In 103 combined matches, Olson registered 21 points and 203 penalty minutes.

“I’m excited for Orin to have the opportunity to play college hockey so close to home,” said Broncos Head Coach and GM Brayden Klimosko. “Briercrest is a great program, and they’re getting not only a great player but a great individual. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for him.”

Olson, who according to the Green and Gold organization, brought “grit, character, and a strong work ethic to the lineup,” will play for a Briercrest College team that plays out of Caronport, Sask.

Standing at five-foot-eleven and weighing in at 185 pounds, Olson will join recently committed Broncos teammate, Cade Kennedy, in the ACAC.

Kennedy, a 171-game SJHL veteran (19 points in 29 games in the Boldt), committed to the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings last week, joining the central Alberta program that has won the last three league titles.

“Cade was a key contributor to our success after we acquired him,” Klimosko continued. “He filled some major holes in our lineup when injuries hit us late in the season. Cade is a great leader and a proven winner. We’re excited to see what the future holds for him in Red Deer.”

Meanwhile, in other Broncos news, Humboldt has committed 20-year-old netminder, Charlie Tritt.

A Vancouver, BC native, Tritt has spent parts of the past three years with the Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).

His latest stint then saw him suit up for five games in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), with the Chippewa Steel.

Tritt’s best Junior A numbers came late in the 2022/23 campaign, where he posted a 1-1 record in four contests, with a 2.58 goals-against-average and a .918 save-percentage. The six-foot-one, 170-pound goaltender also had one playoff matchup that year, recording a 1.24 goals-against-average and a .960 save percentage.

“We feel like Charlie is a goalie that can make us a contender right from the start of this upcoming season. He has a good amount of junior experience and is driven to be one of the best goalies in the SJHL come September,” added Klimosko.
