Several critical alerts for tornados were issued Thursday evening due to fast moving severe thunderstorms.

Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for Allen, which is southeast of Saskatoon and said the possible tornado was tracking eastward at 30 kilometres per hour.

“This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation,” said the warning.

The storms are from a low pressure system that is moving into Southwest Manitoba by the early evening. Environment Canada said in addition to the conditions being favourable for tornadoes, large hail up to 6 cm, wind gusts to 110 km/h, and heavy rain are also likely.

Anyone that sees a tornado approaching should take cover immediately. If you hearing a roaring sound, funnel cloud and swirling debris near the ground, immediate shelter is also advised.

There are unofficial reports that a tornado had been spotted touching down near the North Dakota and Manitoba borders.

Around 5:37 p.m., Environment Canada said it was tracking a severe thunderstorm over Vibank, southeast of Regina, moving southeast at 50 km/h with toonie sized hail.
