A friendship that started almost five weeks ago, has culminated with a tearful see you again soon.

Roughly a dozen schools and daycares from Prince Albert and surrounding area, attended Thursday’s duck launch event at Memorial Gardens.

The program which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, is designed to teach young children responsibility and over the course of the past weeks, the children even had the opportunity to take their assigned ducks home which six-year-old Audrey from Hope’s Home found very challenging.

“They didn’t sleep the whole night,” she commented.

Part of the responsibility of looking after the ducks includes giving them names and this year’s choices included Stitch, Donald, Dilly, Quack Quack and Eggs.

Eve, 9, from Birch Hills, was asked about the hardest part of looking after the ducks.

“Cleaning up their poop,” she replied.

While the kids were sad to say goodbye, they were also reminded they can come back anytime to visit.

Another of the program’s goals is to show the children the cemetery doesn’t necessarily have to be a scary place.
