
Public invited to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day
Tri-community residents are welcome to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day in La Ronge on Saturday.
Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with a smudge walk from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band office to the downtown urban reserve. The walk will stop for a moment of silence at the former location of Robertson Trading and RONA.
Activities will include birch bark crafts, beading, paddle making, art therapy, facing painting, an archives showcase, tug-of-war, as well as teachings of traditional medicine. There will be canoe races at Patterson Park with registration starting at 11 a.m. and the races beginning at noon.
Opening ceremonies will also be held at noon at the urban reserve and a fish fry supper will occur at 5 p.m.
