The Humboldt Broncos had a pair of commitments over the weekend.

One of their graduating players has signed at the U Sports level. Defenceman Tre Fouquette is the newest member of the University of Calgary Dinos.

Fouquette, a native of Warman, Sask. split his Junior A career between the Western Hockey League and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, on various teams.

In 33 combined games in the WHL (Prince Albert raiders and Brandon Wheat Kings) the 21-year-old registered six points.

Meanwhile, in 168 contests as an SJHL player (La Ronge Ice Wolves, Nipawin Hawks, and Humboldt Broncos) Fouquette had 76 points.

“I’m excited that Tre has committed to a top hockey program like the University of Calgary. He was a great leader on and off the ice for us last season,” said Broncos Head Coach and GM Brayden Klimosko. “Tre brings a dynamic mix of offensive skill and defensive reliability.”

Humboldt’s second commitment was a new player to their squad, as they have signed a goaltender from BC.

Eighteen-year-old, Nick Kotai will soon don the Green and Gold between the pipes.

Kotai, an Abbotsford native, has family ties to the SJHL, as his two older brothers have already left their mark on Saskatchewan.

Most recently it was Melfort Mustangs forward Reilley Kotai, who led the league in both goals and points this season, en route to a league championship and national silver medal.

Before that it was fellow netminder Joshua Kotai, who won the Goalie of the Year award during the 2022/23 season, along with a league championship and national silver medal, in a Battlefords North Stars uniform.

Josh’s coach that year was none other than current Humboldt bench boss Brayden Klimosko.

Nick is coming to the Broncos organization with one game of BCHL experience, suiting up for the Surrey Eagles for seven minutes of action, stopping all seven shots he faced.

“I’m excited for Nick to be joining our organization,” added Klimosko. “With Brady Holtvogt starting the year in Prince George, we need to have depth in our crease. Nick’s background and mindset make him a perfect fit for what we’re building.”
