It will be a busy Canada Day across the northeast.

Communities in the region will be holding celebrations to commemorate Canada’s 158th birthday.

Most of the Canada Day events in Melfort will be held at the Melfort and District Museum. The opening ceremonies will start at 2 p.m., led by the Melfort Legion Colour Parade and delegate speeches.

Museum Curator Brenda Mellon said the family activities will begin at 2:30 and run until 6 p.m. Activities include Old McDale’s Petting Zoo, bouncy castles, the Melfort Fire Department slip-n-slide, sparkle tattoos, face painting, crafts, a scavenger hunt, and more. The Melfort Wood Carvers will also be on site.

“We’ll also be able to enjoy the live music from the Lenvale Elevators and Friends throughout the afternoon,” said Mellon.

A barbecue will follow from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

“Then everything will move over to the Grandstands (at the Melfort Exhibition Grounds) for a special viewing of the Wild Robot movie at 7 o’clock,” Mellon explained.

There will also be accessible parking on the south side of the museum grounds near the Ag Society entrance.

In Tisdale, a pancake breakfast will kick off Canada Day celebrations at the Museum at 8:30 a.m.

A cribbage tournament will follow at 10 o’clock, and the museum village will open at 10:30. Bouncy castles will be open from 11 to 2:30 p.m.

A flag-raising will take place at noon, followed by entertainment that kicks off at 12:30 p.m., and cake will be served at 3 p.m. Cotton candy, popcorn, burgers, hotdogs and drinks will also be available at the celebration.

The Nipawin Museum will host their annual Canada Day celebration, with the food booth opening at 9 a.m. The flag-raising will take place at 10, followed by saw mill running, a silent auction, shingle mill running, and a threshing demo. A church service will begin at 1 p.m., and a Canada birthday cake will be served starting at around 3 p.m. There will also be a food and pie booth, rope making demo, live music, and a bouncy castle.

In Humboldt, the Canada Day celebrations will be hosted at Civic Park.

O’Canada, an opening ceremony, and Danish Oven Cupcakes will kick things off at 11:30 a.m. A barbecue fundraiser hosted by Country Care Sask and Prairie Care for the Elderly will begin at noon. Free family entertainment will follow, including bouncy castles, baby dinos, and a petting zoo.

The fireworks finale will be held at the Uniplex Grounds.
