Four arrested in Lloydminster on drug; firearm offenses

Multiple drugs and weapons charges have been laid after Lloydminster RCMP were informed of suspicious people near a downtown business last Wednesday at 9 p.m.

After an investigation, police discovered firearms on three of the suspects and were arrested. The fourth was later found in Onion Lake.

A 25-year-old from Fort McMurray, AB, a 26-year-old resident of Onion Lake, a 35-year-old from Kehewin Cree Nation, and a 21-year-old from Sweetgrass First Nation are charged after additional contraband including two loaded rifles, ammunition and other weapons-related items were found.

Charges include possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon, resisting arrest and possession of fentanyl.

“We’re thankful for the vigilance of community members who reported this suspicious activity” said Corporal Christopher Byford, support operations NCO, Lloydminster RCMP in a news release.

“This swift response prevented a potentially dangerous situation and highlights the importance of public co-operation in keeping our city safe.”

Three of the people charged have been remanded into custody while the fourth was released on conditions; and is scheduled to appear before the Lloydminster Provincial Court on July. 15.
