Canada Day fun rolls in for North Battleford, Meadow Lake

Families in the Northwest can get ready for a full day of free fun as North Battleford and Meadow Lake gear up to celebrate Canada Day on July 1.

In North Battleford, the fun kicks off at the InnovationPlex at 11 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. There will be free swimming all day at the Battleford CO-OP Aquatic Centre, plus bouncy castles, arts and crafts and giant lawn games for kids of all ages.

The Mudd Brothers Band will play live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rotary Plaza while volunteers fire up the grill for a classic BBQ — think hamburgers, hot dogs and chips.

For remote-control fans, remember to bring your whips as there’s an RC car race at 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot, with prizes for the fastest times.

The community will gather for O Canada and a cake cutting at 1 p.m., before a bike parade starts at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts at 1:30 p.m.The day wraps up with a big fireworks display from King Hill Lookout at 10:45 p.m.

Over in Meadow Lake, festivities at Lions Park begin bright and early with a free pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Young ball players can swing for the fences in the MLB Pitch Hit & Run competition at 9:30 a.m., followed by a decorative bike rally at 11 a.m. and bouncy castles open from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Baseball fans can catch Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League 18U AAA action — with the Rookie All Star game at 1 p.m., and the All Star game at 4 p.m.. Fireworks will light up the sky at dusk to close out the day.
