People in North Battleford will soon have another way to get to Alberta and other parts of Saskatchewan when FlixBus launches its new long-distance bus route on Canada Day.

The company said the daily service will connect Calgary, Edmonton, North Battleford, Saskatoon and Regina, giving smaller cities more affordable options to travel between provinces.

“We carefully select cities and communities that are convenient, accessible, and serve as important connection points for the region,” said Karina Frayter, head of communications at Flix North America, in an emailed response.

“North Battleford is a key stop along the route, and it helps ensure that smaller cities have access to affordable, reliable transportation, not just the larger urban centers.”

She notes that demand for affordable travel has been growing.

“For many people, driving or flying simply isn’t practical or affordable,” Frayter said.

“We know that reliable, long-distance bus service has been limited in smaller communities like North Battleford. FlixBus helps fill that gap by providing an easy, affordable travel option that connects residents to major cities in both Saskatchewan and Alberta.”

Mayor Kelli Hawtin said the city is grateful the company was able to include North Battleford in its route expansion.

“We appreciate enhanced passenger services for those who need to get from one community to another, including our own residents. The City of North Battleford is located on a major highway connecting communities in western Canada, and we look forward to welcoming visitors to our community who may benefit from using this transportation service,” Hawtin said.

Ticket prices will cost around $103 one-way from North Battleford to Calgary, and $76 one-way to Edmonton. Each ride usually carries about 50 passengers.

Should ridership demand grows, the company will “explore opportunities to add more connections or adjust service to meet the community’s needs.”

The new service starts July 1, with one round trip every day. Tickets can be booked now at flixbus.ca or through the FlixBus app. Furthermore, its bus station in North Battleford is located at 11102 Railway Ave East.
