Humboldt ballplayer named to three separate Team Sask. rosters

A Humboldt baseball player is set for a busy couple of months, as she’s been named to three separate Team Sask. rosters.

Camden Suchan is just 16 years old, yet she will be on the 16U Girls’ Canada Summer Games roster, the 19U Women’s Team Sask roster, and the Women’s Team Sask roster.

“I’m very excited for my summer coming up because I’m doing something that I love… I love the opportunity that I have to play with three different teams because Team Canada coaches scout at Nationals. It’s really exciting and I wasn’t expecting to make the senior team,” Suchan told northeastNOW.

“Travelling can be a lot and you can get tired after one week, for sure. But I’ll have chances to go home in between tournaments and rest. Honestly, just finding that passion for playing will make me excited and want to be out there, even if I’m a bit tired.”

Suchan’s first stop will be Calgary, Alta. for the 2025 19U Women’s Baseball National Championship, which runs July 31 to Aug. 3. From there, she will head to Quebec City for the 2025 Senior Women’s (will feature 21 and 22-year-olds) Baseball National Championship, taking place from Aug. 7 until Aug. 10. Her final destination will then be St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, for the 2025 Canada Summer Games which begin Aug. 8 and conclude Aug. 25.

When on the 16U Girls’ roster at the Canada Summer Games, Suchan will be a part of history, competing at the first-ever female baseball event in the event’s history.

“I am very proud to be part of that team, representing Saskatchewan in this historical moment. Baseball plays a pretty big role in my life, and I just want to do it as long as I can. One of my personal goals is to make Team Canada one day, and I don’t know if I’ll achieve that, but I’ll try my best and just hope to take it as far as I can,” she said.

“I am really happy to be part of the senior team as well because I know I might not get as much playing time as the older girls, but that’s totally fine with me. I’m a team player and will go wherever they need me to go. There’s one girl on the team who plays with Team Canada whom I look up to as a role model, having made it this far. I want to learn how she keeps her head up when things aren’t going well, and how she plays the sport with pride and joy.”

Suchan mainly plays pitcher and third base when she’s on the field and will be playing with her club team, the AAA East Central Dodgers, for the next month, in preparation for her upcoming three major events.
