A man alleged responsible for causing a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in one of the vehicles being flipped onto its roof, made his first court appearance on Thursday.

Johnathan Meldrum was read his charges and was ultimately remanded to July 8.

Wednesday afternoon’s crash occurred downtown at the intersection of 15th St. W. and First Ave. W. According to information provided by RCMP, at approximately 4:40 p.m., a Saskatchewan RCMP Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan officer was conducting patrols in the Prince Albert area.

The officer observed a driver who was not wearing a seatbelt, activated their emergency lights and performed a traffic stop in the City of Prince Albert. As the officer began exiting their police vehicle, the driver fled in their SUV at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, Prince Albert Police Service received a report of a collision.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the SUV was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature. The driver of the SUV fled on foot. He was located and arrested shortly after by Prince Albert.

Police investigate late night crash at YWCA Our House

The crash at the busy intersection was one of three that occurred in the city on Wednesday.

At around 8:50 p.m., police were called to the area of First Ave. E. and 15th St. E. for a report of a motor vehicle collision.

Arriving officers located a vehicle that had collided with a fence. The occupant of the vehicle remained on scene and did not report any injuries to police.

Through their investigation, officers learned that the first vehicle was proceeding through a green light westbound on 15th St. when a second vehicle travelling northbound on First Ave. collided with it before fleeing the scene.

Officers searched the area for the suspect vehicle, but were unsuccessful.

In a third, separate accident, a truck collided with a gas pump before hitting a liquor store wall.
