Jess Moskaluke to christen Meadow Lake’s new Co-op Centre

Saskatchewan country star Jess Moskaluke will help Meadow Lake kick off a new chapter this fall as the first artist to perform at the city’s new Co-op Centre.

The show, set for Oct. 9, is a partnership between the City of Meadow Lake and the Meadow Lake Broncos Senior ‘A’ hockey club, which has a long track record of hosting concerts and cabarets to help support the team.

“We knew in the fall would probably be the best time… and we thought this might be a nice way to kick off the idea that we’re going to host bigger events here in Meadow Lake again and we think Jess Moskaluke is a fantastic artist to get us started,” said Regan Beck, the city’s parks and recreation manager.

Born in Langenburg, Moskaluke’s Saskatchewan roots and popularity make her a good fit for the community, Beck said.

“Meadow Lake is a country and western kind of community, so it fits with what we like to offer here as well,” he said. “And we think she’s the perfect combination of an artist with local ties and brings a nice big crowd for it.”

In a statement sent to meadowlakeNOW, Moskaluke said it is an “incredible honour” to be the first solo artist to play at the brand-new Co-op Centre.

“I’ve had the chance to perform all across the country, but there’s just something extra special about playing here in Saskatchewan,” she stated.

“This province has been such a big part of my journey, and it means so much to be part of something that reflects real growth, community, and investment in the arts. My team and I have poured so much into the Life For Me Tour, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

Darryl Worms, a manager with the Broncos, said hosting big shows helps keep the team going financially.

“We’re here all the time. This is our home. Why wouldn’t we do this?” Worms said. “It’s also a big fundraiser for the club to get us through… Meadow Lake is geographically challenged… everywhere you go, we’ve gotten to travel and this is going to help us out a lot.”

The Broncos have previously brought bands like Nazareth, Trooper and Terry Clark to the city. Worms hopes this new show draws people from across northwest Saskatchewan.

“This is for everybody from all over,” he said. “I’m betting that we’re going to have people from every little community around come here.”

Tickets have been on sale for less than a week but Worms said sales have already hit about 200. The Co-op Centre can hold up to 2,000 people.

Both organizers hope the concert will become an annual tradition.

“We’re going to try to make this an annual event,” Beck said. “This is the first one. So we want to make sure that we do it right and get a nice crowd in here and have a really good time.”

His message to the community is simple: don’t wait.

“Buy tickets early…Meadow Lake’s got a style of waiting in the past. [So], do not wait on this one.Ticket sales are already going pretty fast.”

In a social media post, the City said the show “will be the musical centerpiece of a whole series of exciting community events planned for this fall” and added they plan to reveal the full lineup in the coming weeks.
