Two members of the Battlefords North Stars are taking the next step in their hockey journey, as Jordan Grill and Jackson Allan have both committed to post-secondary hockey programs for the upcoming season.

Jordan Grill Commits to Acadia University

Battlefords local Jordan Grill will be heading east to Wolfville, N.S., to join the Acadia Axemen of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference. Grill, known for his versatility on the ice, contributed both as a defenceman and forward during his SJHL career. He finished with 29 goals and 72 assists for a total of 101 points in 168 regular-season games.

Grill joins former North Stars teammate Kian Bell at Acadia, reuniting a tandem that played together in both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, highlighted by an SJHL Championship and Centennial Cup silver medal

“Acadia has shown a lot of interest in me as a player and a person and seeing that made me decide Acadia was my best choice. The community and campus definitely caught my eye. I chose to be an Axemen because of how the team sets its goals to push each other on and off the ice. I believe in the team’s values, the coaching staff’s vision, and the opportunity to grow as a player and a person as well,” Grill said.

“The fans and coaches can expect a fast, physical player who works every minute. Someone who will always have a teammates back and not be scared to get his hands dirty,” he added.

The Axemen finished last season with a 14-16 record, falling to St. Francis Xavier in the AUS quarterfinals.

Jackson Allan Signs with Briercrest College

North Stars captain Jackson Allan will be staying closer to home, committing to Briercrest College in Caronport, Sask., a member of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). Allan’s final season with the North Stars was cut short due to injury, but he still made an impact, first as team captain and then stepping into an assistant coaching role following the setback.

Over three seasons in Battlefords, Allan tallied 36 goals and 68 assists for 104 points, while also celebrating a SJHL Championship and Centennial Cup silver medal.

“The deciding factor was who was going to take me where I’m at and trust me into the next season. I just wanted to go somewhere where I would have the best chance of getting as healthy as possible. They really put a lot of trust in me, and it’s kind of hard to find that at the college level,” Allan said.

“I was excited to commit, but it all comes back to them being willing to give me a shot to get better and be the player that I can be. They have great coaching staff, a nice facility, and it’s a community of helping each other out, so I was pretty happy,” he added.

Briercrest enjoyed a strong 2024-25 campaign, going 19-5 in the ACAC before falling to Red Deer Polytechnic in the finals.
