Jul 7, 2025 | 1:00 PM

The La Ronge Regional Fire Department has issued a fire and fireworks ban effective immediately until significant precipitation.

The ban was issued on Monday at approximately 9 a.m. with support from tri-community leadership, as well as the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency. While the ban covers fireworks and open fires, traditional smokers, propane barbecues, propane-fueled fire pits and briquettes are permitted.

“This ban has been issued the ensure the risk of any wildfire within the tri-communities is eliminated as much as possible,” the notice states.

“This is due to the extreme forecasted heat, extreme fire index ratings and precipitation forecasted in the near future.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting a temperature of 24 C on Monday with a 30 per cent of rain throughout the day and into the evening. Sunny skies are expected during the remainder of week with the temperatures forecast to hit 31 C on Wednesday.

An air quality warning also remains in effect due to wildfire smoke. Smoke is expected to cause very poor air quality and reduced visibility in some areas into Tuesday, and residents are encouraged to limit their time outdoors. They are encouraged to reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities and events.
