A woman from Frog Lake is facing charges after a vehicle crossed the centre line and crashed into an RCMP cruiser in Lloydminster last Friday on July 4.

Mounties said the collision happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 48 Street while an officer was on routine patrol.

Police allege the driver fled the scene on foot but was arrested shortly after, with help from witnesses who stayed to provide statements.

Larissa Berland, 36, is charged with dangerous driving, impaired operation of a vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

The RCMP officer suffered minor injuries, was treated in hospital and later released.

Cpl. Byford of the Lloydminster RCMP thanked members of the public who stepped in to help immediately after the crash.

“Your quick actions and willingness to remain on scene to provide witness statements greatly assisted our investigation and ensured the safety of everyone involved,” he stated in a release issued Tuesday.

Berland has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on July 22.

Mounties said the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information to contact Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.P3Tips.com.
