State of emergency declared for Patuanak

A state of emergency has been declared for Patuanak.

According to a social media post by the English River First Nation Emergency Management Team, the decision was made Wednesday after a meeting with chief and council.

Priority 1 people will be evacuated today and Priority 2 people will be evacuated tomorrow.

A wildfire has forced the closure of Highway 918 which represents the only road into and out of the community.

No one will be able to drive out as the fire is too volatile. Flights are being arranged.

Evacuees will first be taken to Buffalo Narrows, where arrangements are being made to meet the bus and the final destination will be Lloydminster.
