E. coli levels return to acceptable levels at Sunnyside Beach
Environmental Public Health has provided updated test results showing that E. coli levels have returned to acceptable levels at Emma Lake’s Sunnyside Beach.
A warning was put out earlier in the week, but advisories were lifted once follow-up sampling confirmed that conditions returned to safe levels for recreational use. The current levels show the water is now considered suitable for swimming, and officials will continue to monitor conditions at the beach.
E.coli levels can show up in any lake throughout the province. As untreated bodies of water, all lakes carry some risk due to pollutants and other environmental factors. Public Health Inspectors respond to water quality issues, including blue-green algae (algal blooms) and elevated bacteria levels, to ensure risks are addressed as quickly as possible.
The public can monitor levels through the Healthy Beaches map, which shows what lakes may be under an advisory.
