Jul 14, 2025 | 4:36 PM

As wildfires and thick smoke continue to threaten communities in northern Saskatchewan, the City of North Battleford has opened its arms once again, this time to 140 evacuees from Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

The evacuees arrived in the Battlefords region over the weekend, seeking safety and temporary shelter as blazes continue to rage in parts of the province. City officials and community organizations are coordinating relief efforts and are calling on local residents and businesses for support.

A list of high-priority donation items has been released to help meet the needs of those displaced. Requested donations include:

  • Fresh fruit
  • Activity and colouring books, crayons, markers
  • Books for all age groups (gently used accepted)
  • Board games, playing cards (gently used accepted)
  • Non-perishable snacks, especially baby food/snacks
  • Baby formula
  • Diapers (urgent need for sizes 1, 2, and 6)
  • Pull-Ups
  • Diaper cream
  • Personal hygiene products

Donations can be dropped off daily between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Tropical Inn, located on Highway 16/Battleford Road.

This is the latest group of wildfire evacuees to arrive in the area, as Saskatchewan continues to grapple with an intense wildfire season.
