Inmate death

Inmate from Saskatoon dies in Sask. Pen

Jul 14, 2025 | 9:32 AM

A Saskatoon man who was incarcerated at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert died in custody several days ago.

The Correctional Service of Canada reported that Matthew Scoville, age 42, died on July 11.

He was serving a sentence of two years, seven months and one day that started at the end of May this year.

Scoville was the subject of a Saskatoon Police Service request for public assistance last October as part of an aggravated and sexual assault investigation.

The incident led to a significant police presence in the Coppermine Crescent neighbourhood in Saskatoon.

As is policy when an inmate dies in the custody of the Correctional Service of Canada, all of the circumstances surrounding Scoville’s death will be investigated and the police and coroner have been notified.
