Access Communications Centre reopens after mid-June fire

Jul 16, 2025 | 11:03 AM

The Access Communications Centre is back in operation as of Monday, following a fire on June 19 that forced its closure.

According to Cheryl Deneire, the city’s director of parks and recreation, while the facility is open for limited short-term bookings, it will shut down again next week to prepare for the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) rodeo on July 24. Preparations include bringing in dirt and setting up the arena for the competition.

Once the rodeo wraps up, crews will begin making ice ahead of the 2025–26 hockey season, a process that takes about two and a half weeks. The facility is expected to return to regular operations on Aug. 16.

In the meantime, community groups interested in short-term use can check availability through the city’s central booking office.
