Man killed in drunk driving collision near Beardy’s

A 62-year-old man is dead and an 18-year-old is in jail after a vehicle struck and killed pedestrian near Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation two days ago.

RCMP from Rosthern were called to the scene just before 11 p.m. on July 14, where they found the pedestrian who had been hit. He was declared deceased by EMS at the scene.

The victim was a resident of Beardy’s and Okemasis.

Officers found the driver of the vehicle two hours later, arresting him at a nearby residence at 1:10 a.m.

Anthony Gamble is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failing to stop after an accident resulting in death.

He also faces a charge of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death and appeared in court on July 16.

Rosthern RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
