Every golfer at this year’s Saskatchewan Amateur Championships has now at least teed off for Day 2 of the event at the Humboldt Golf Club.

Round 2 began Wednesday morning as early as 7 a.m., with the final tee times scheduled for 3 p.m.

Nearly 150 competitors are divided between the Men’s and Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships, with three of the four titles set to be handed out on Thursday.

As of publication, the women’s side has finished their second round, with Kyle, Sask. native Chloe Willis still in the lead, now at 1-under.

Battlefords’ Natalie Maunula is the only local product in the women’s group and is solo 13th in the amateur division.

She claimed third place in the five-player junior women’s U15 division last week in the Junior Championships in Lloydminster.

As for the men’s side of the event, Swift Current’s Corey Bailey is in the lead for the amateur and mid-amateur (age 25 and over) with an opening round of 64 (8-under).

Prince Albert’s Jeff Whitfield and North Battleford’s Shae Maunula are the local golfers closest to the top of the leaderboard in the amateur division, as they both sit in a tie for 15th.

Meanwhile, in the mid-amateur group, Whitfield is tied for fifth place, with Battleford golfer Thomas Weikle one stroke behind him, in a tie for seventh.

The women’s championships will conclude on Thursday, with the men’s mid-amateur also wrapping up after just three rounds.

The fourth and final round of the amateur men’s event will be held on Friday.
