The Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club made quite the splash in Winnipeg during the ManSask Championships this past weekend.

The Sharks went into hostile waters and came away with nine total medals, all while breaking a few club records in the process.

“Your relentless dedication in training, your courage on the blocks, and your magnificent performances in Winnipeg embody the heart of the Sharks. You faced the province’s best and emerged triumphant, etching your names in club lore and carrying the banner of Prince Albert with immense pride,” said the club in a release.

Two swimmers in particular led the shiver of Sharks at the meet, Zoe Catral and Ali Diehl.

Catral finished on the podium four times throughout the weekend, claiming two gold medals and two silver. She also smashed a club record in the 200m Butterfly by two seconds, scoring a 2:56.54, which was also a new personal best. Meanwhile, Diehl collected a handful of medals at the meet, winning two gold, one silver, and two bronze.

Both swimmers qualified for Team Sask in the meets’ relay races, where Catral won gold in the 11-12 Girls Provincial Relay, while Diehl also won gold in the Provincial Para Swimming Relays.

Also breaking records at the ManSask Championships was Jaxen Storey, who squashed a 20-year-old Sharks club record in the 50m freestyle, clocking a time of 26.73. The time was also a new personal best.

Along with Storey, three other Sharks including Clara Gelhorn, Ana Scott, and Sophia Walter, all managed to make the final heat in their respective events. One of those appearances stood out among the others, as Walter was competing in her first-ever ManSask Championships and made the finals in the 100m Breaststroke.

Two Sharks competing at the meet are now gearing up for even bigger events, with both Diehl and Gelhorn set to represent Team Sask at the Canada Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador later next month.

Diehl is also preparing to represent the maple leaf at the World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore later this year in September.
