The remains of a missing 40-year-old Ahtahkakoop woman have been found and her identity confirmed, Big River RCMP have said.

Sherry Michelle Ahenakew, who went by her middle name, was found in a remote rural area west of Victoire on July 18. Victoire is about 14 kilometres west of Debden and 50 kilometres away from Big River.

Ahenakew was last seen alive in Big River on June 5 and the subsequent investigation led police to believe her disappearance was suspicious.

She was reported missing by family members on July 12 and shortly after that, the Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

Police say her death is suspicious and would like to hear from anyone with information.
