Upon arriving at the Prince Albert Safe Shelter for Women, representatives from the Northern Lights Casino were greeted with hugs and hand shakes.

They were there on Thursday to deliver a $5,000 cheque.

Sherry Bates, the shelter’s Executive Director, was visibly moved by the donation and told paNOW SIGA and the Northern Lights Casino continually support their programs.

“They say we are near and dear to their hearts, and we consider them our guardian angels because they always seem to come through, you know whenever there’s a project or something major that we have to buy that’s not within our budget.”

When asked how the money will be used, Bates noted the need to do some upgrades to their IT and photocopier.

Angela Isbister, the casino’s General manager, said they had a very good year last year and the donated money represents a commitment to help

“We like to help the women’s shelter, just to help the community and things like that.
We’ve helped them too before. So it’s just something we like to do to support them.”

On Sept. 6, the shelter’s second annual golf fundraiser will take place at Mark’s Nine Golf and Country Club.

“Our first one was a great success, so I mean onwards and upward, we are expecting this to be even bigger and better, and we appreciate all the commitments from our community and our sponsors and the people that donate,” Bates said.
