Saskatchewan’s own Jared Parsonage delivered a memorable performance Thursday night, winning the 10th Annual McDonald’s Colby Cave Memorial PBR Classic at the Access Communications Centre in front of nearly 1,500 fans.

The Maple Creek cowboy posted an aggregate score of 171.50, starting with an 84-point ride on Hammer Time in the first round, followed by a powerful 87.5 in the championship round on More or Less.

“The first bull was a good bull and I was lucky enough to win the long round,” said Parsonage. “Then we get to pick our short round bulls, and I’ve seen that bull [More or Less] a lot of times. I knew it would suit my style, and I’d be hard to beat if I rode him.”

The performance was especially meaningful for Parsonage, as one of his first-ever PBR appearances was at the inaugural North Battleford Classic in 2014. Over a decade later, he returned to the same town, this time as a trophy winner.

“It’s good to have these rides in Saskatchewan. They get good support and it’s good crowds,” he said. “The Saskatchewan people, they’re always really supportive of Saskatchewan cowboys. They really get behind you and I look forward to it.”

Currently ranked third in the PBR Canada national standings, Parsonage’s win tightened the race. He now sits just 102 points behind second place Jake Gardner and 246 behind the overall leader Dakota Buttar as the season enters its final stretch.

“It’s always fun when you win. That’s why we do this,” said Parsonage. “We’re in a tight race for the Canadian title, and it’s getting down to the final stretch, so everything counts.”

Reflecting on the season so far, Parsonage added, “It’s what I do for a living, so it’s a marathon, not a sprint. You just got to keep your head down, work hard, and stay focused. There’s a lot of season left, and if every time you put your hand on a rope you try hard, it’ll pay off.”

However, the event wasn’t just about bull riding. It also served as an community fundraiser, with proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House, the Battlefords Trade and Education Centre, STARS Ambulance, and the Colby Cave Memorial Fund. The fund, named in honour of late NHL player and Battlefords native, Colby Cave, supports community mental health initiatives and provides athletic access to underprivileged children
