Meadow Lake Co-op to open new location in Buffalo Narrows

Meadow Lake Co-op will open its first branded location in Buffalo Narrows on Aug. 8, bringing new jobs and more shopping options for residents.

General manager Brent Bushell said the project began after a local reseller of Co-op fuel, Robert’s One Stop Gas and Confectionery Store, decided to leave the business a couple of years ago.

“We just thought that we had an opportunity to create a stronger Co-op presence in Buffalo Narrows,” Bushell said.

The Co-op purchased the property and took possession on July 28.

Bushell said the development will happen in three phases: operating the business as it stands, renovating the property to give it a traditional Co-op look, and adding a card-lock fuel tank for customers.

“We’ll likely have probably 10 [positions], including our two management people,” he said of the staffing plans.

Buffalo Narrows Mayor Shaylee Gardiner said the Co-op will benefit the village.

“I think it’s good for the community and there’ll be more job opportunities for the community members,” she said.

The mayor noted the community currently has two grocery stores and welcomed the added variety.

Meanwhile, the Co-op team is enhancing the fueling, car wash and “in-store experience.” Bushell said updates on the opening will be posted on the Meadow Lake Co-op’s Facebook page.

During the upgrade period, full service will not be available until the opening.
