The new wave pool in Prince Albert’s new swimming pool and twin pad arena facility will be named for the city’s Kinsmen Club following a financial commitment of $450,000.

They have also committed $100,000 toward replacement of the lift at the Ski and Snowboard Centre in Little Red River Park.

“We always as a club are looking to participate in everything that’s good in the community and this new facility is a wonderful addition, and we wanted to make sure we were part of it in in a very big way,” said Wes Moore, president of the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club.

“This is a very big donation for us, it’s been one of the largest we’ve done in a number of years so it’s going to take a lot of work.”

The donation is a future commitment, not cash on hand. Moore explained the club has two major fundraisers a year, the Sportmen’s Banquet and the Fest o’ Ale. Funds raised from those two events will help them meet their commitment.

In exchange for their commitment, the Kinsmen Wave Pool and one dressing room at the new swimming facility will be born.

“The Kinsman Wave pool will be a standout feature for the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre, providing residents of all ages with a place to connect, stay active and create lasting memories for generations to come,” said Coun. Dawn Kilmer, who is also part of the Play it Forward committee that was created to raise $20 million towards the pool efforts.

They are over halfway to their goal and Kilmer explained that commitments like the Kinsmen and another sponsorship deal with Lake Country Co-op for $10 million are huge.

“The ripple effects of your generosity will be felt beyond the walls of this leisure centre, fostering not only physical activity but also building a sense of belonging and pride,” she said during a presentation in front of the wave pool.

“Every splash, every moment of laughter, every shared experience with the wave pool stands as a testament to your kindness and your community leadership.”

The pool is almost ready but some work is still being done on the changing rooms. An opening date has not been announced but will likely be in September.
