A man and woman are in RCMP custody after a vehicle stolen in the RM of Paddockwood and driven by the suspect refused to stop for police.

RCMP first learned of the stolen vehicle on August 15 around 3 pm, when it was taken from a location on Highway 2.

The next morning around 10:30 in the morning, Waskesiu/Montreal Lake detachment officers saw the stolen vehicle in Montreal Lake and attempted to pull the driver over.

They did not comply and kept driving on Highway 2 at high speeds, before turning onto a grid road. The driver then ran into a nearby forested area.

A female passenger was arrested, and police seized a sawed-of firearm from the vehicle.

RCMP officers from Prince Albert, a police dog and the Critical Incident Response team searched the area and found the male and arrested him.

Now charged is 24-year-old Edward John Henderson of Montreal Lake and Acotia Bradfield, age 21, of La Ronge.

Both are charged with flight from a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and occupying the vehicle while knowing there was a prohibited weapon inside.

Bradfield is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order and having a weapon while prohibited.

Henderson had an outstanding arrest warrant for breaching a Conditional Sentence Order.

Both were in Prince Albert Provincial Court on August 18.
